Casting off the COVID clouds, the 6th Taiwan International Flute Festival sets out on a glamorous voyage through the world of the flute with classical, modern, jazz, improvisation and crossover repertoire, as over 200 artists gather in this grand fiesta.

The opening concert is led by the star Macanese conductor Kuokman Lio, resident conductor of the HK Phil, and features four Taiwanese musicians distinguished by their international achievements – Chih-Wei Hu, silver medallist of the Lorenzo Flute Competition and former principal flutist of numerous Asian symphony orchestras; Yi-Hsien Liao, concert flutist specialising in contemporary music and a soloist at the Lucerne Music festival; Chih-Yueh Yang, one of the most outstanding flutists of the new generation; pianist Evan Wong, silver medallist of the Sendai International Competition, along with National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra.

Setting off with Claude Debussy’s Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune – with one of the sweetest, most gentle flute solos among all orchestral pieces, the soloists present Carl Nielsen’s celebrated Flute Concerto, and the Taiwan premiere of two exciting works – Lalo Schifrin’s Concierto caribeño for Flute and Erwin Schulhoff’s Double Concerto for Flute and Piano.
